Botanical Illustration in Wool Felt and Embroidery
Instructor: Kathy Johnson
Sunday, September 17, 2017, 10:30 am to 1:30 pm - There will be a $5.00 materials fee for this class that will be collected the day of the class.
Designer Kathy Johnson brings her background in botanical illustration to fiber arts. This workshop begins with color blocking in felt, blind stitched to a background, followed by embroidery details. You will learn to depict realistic flora including the shading and subtle variations of nature. The methods used can be translated to any design. Hand dyed wool felt pieces will be provided in the class, and if you have not worked with this combination of wool and rayon before, this will be a great opportunity to give it a try. Class is appropriate for beginners and beyond.
What will you do in the workshop:
Begin an applique of a primrose design with embroidered details. You will learn how to transfer the design to the background, cut out the wool felt pieces using freezer paper, blind applique felt to the background, and use embroidery to add realistic detail.
