Fabulous Facades Class
Instructor: Gloria Loughman
2 Day Class, Thursday & Friday, June 8 & 9, 2017, 10am to 4:30 pm
After completing studies in design and color as part of a Diploma of Art Gloria began to make large vivid landscape quilts depicting the Australian bush. These quilts have won many major awards in Australia, Europe, Japan and the United States. Her quilt ‘Kimberley Mystique’ was the winner of Australia’s most prestigious national quilting award in 2003.
Gloria has been teaching quilting classes for many years and her students benefit from her generous sharing of her knowledge and skills. Gloria's passion is to challenge students to design their own quilts but she is also happy to provide patterns for those less confident. Her classes are very popular with many students returning for a second or third class. Gloria has traveled extensively from her home in Australia, overseas teaching classes in New Zealand, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe, South Africa, and Japan and we are excited to welcome her to Port Gamble for a second time.
The word facade means the ‘face’ of outward appearance of a building. In this class students are going to recreate a facade of a building in fabric. The building can be modern or old, a public building, a private home, a shed, a sky scrapper or a church. There are so many wonderful buildings to inspire us. After looking at a number of colour schemes participants can then decide to use a very different palette or stay with the original colour scheme for their own design. As part of the construction technique class members will look at the layers of the building and construct each layer separately. Main features will be outlined with a thin dark line to create a more graphic image.
