Tree of Life Class
Instructor: Ann Trujillo
4 session class: Sundays, February 18, March 25, April 15th and May 20th, 10:30 am to 4:30 pm
This class is a wonderful opportunity to learn a variety of embroidery stitches "Sue Spargo style" with a creative project that will allow each student to customize their own piece. Ann will teach and demonstrate a wide variety of stitches in each class session and will also talk about the effects of different sizes and types of thread on each stitch, as well as discuss the best needles to use for each kind of thread, and offer some tips and suggestions for working with felted wool.
This is a four part class, with a total of 24 hours of instruction. Each class is three or four weeks apart to allow students time to work in between classes. The first class session will focus on what kind of tree the student would like to make. Ann will have some trees already drawn out if you would like to copy one of hers, or she will help you design your own tree. Students will then draw their tree on freezer paper, cut it out and iron it to the background. Ann will discuss several methods of holding the pattern on the background until it is sewn down and students can choose the method they are most comfortable with. Ann will have samples of the kinds of stitches that students will learn over the next three classes, and will demonstrate a few stitches in class. Students will take their pieces home and sew their tree to their background before the next class.
