This is an opportunity to create your own stunning medallion quilt using Robin Ruth Design’s innovative STRIP-PIECING method. If you have used her method before, you know how precise and easy it is to make any sized compass. Learn to layer compass blocks to create a medallion focal piece for any quilt. You will also use the same skills to make 32-Point blocks to add to your medallion.
Day 1 - We will talk about different design and fabric choices for creating your own layered medallion. Students may use one of Robins's patterns, or she will help you to create your own individual medallion. Students will get started on the 32-Point blocks they have chosen for their medallion starting with one of the 32-Point Compass Sunflower blocks (Version1 or Version 2).
Day 2 - Students will finish the 32-Point Compass Sunflower block and start on a 32-Point Sunflower block which is the largest size block for the medallion.
Day 3 - Students will work on finishing these blocks in to a layered medallion. Robin will also demonstrate many other techniques used in the quilt patterns shown on the next page and ways to add elements to make your own creative medallion quilt.
This is a great opportunity as class size is limited to ten students, so there will be plenty of opportunity to work individually with Robin and get take advantage of her expertise about construction techniques, design, color and fabrics.
STUDENTS MUST HAVE TAKEN ROBIN'S BEGINNING COMPASS CLASS OR HAVE ACTUALLY COMPLETED COMPASS BLOCKS ON THEIR OWN. THIS CLASS WILL ASSUME FAMILIARITY WITH THE CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES.
