Two Day Class: March 20 & 21, 2020, 10 am to 4:30 pm
Rachaeldaisy is in great demand in her home country of Australia right now. Her fresh interpretation of the art of quilting using 3-D design elements and her fabulous sense of color have combined to give her a unique spot in the quilting world. Rachael was chosen in 2019 to teach at the prestigious Australasian Quilt Convention, and her quilts have won numerous awards over the past several years. Prizes including Best in Show at both 2015 and 2016 Australian Modern Quilt Shows, Best in Show at 2016 Sydney Quilt Show, Most Innovative at the 2017 Dare to Differ Contemporary Textiles Exhibition, Best Use of Colour at 2017 Sydney Quilt Show and 2nd Place Alternate Techniques in the 2018 IQA Houston Quilt Show. In 2018 Rachael worked with the designers of the Australian Fashion house Romance Was Born, and their collaboration appeared on the runways of Paris. Rachael has shown her work in quilt shows, galleries, and publications nationally and internationally, and she is the author of 'Whizz Bang, Adventures in Folded Fabric!' published by Quiltmania. We are thrilled that she will be making her US teaching debut at Quilted Strait.
In this class, students will learn the art of making the folded point "Whizz Bang" blocks. This folding technique that quilters once thought of as making great potholders has been updated and given a fresh new look by Rachael. Learn Rachael's techniques and be inspired by her flair for color and design to make sure these 3-D blocks pack a punch. Rachael will demonstrate several block variations which will allow students to be creative with their blocks instead of following a strict pattern. The class is suitable for beginners but also excellent for more experienced students who want to try something different.
