Improv is a fun and creative way to quilt but it takes thinking differently than we have traditionally done as quilters. First off, we don’t really know what we are making, not even how big or small, maybe not even the shape so that creates a problem if you like control.
You can, however, control your fabrics though.  In the morning Melissa will be demonstrating how to use gentle curves to add interest to your work.  We will all be using black and white fabrics so bring as many as you have in your stash.  A general rule is at least 4” X 12” but a 6” Selvage to Selvage strip is what most should be.  This gives you more flexibility.   She also suggests you bring an accent color (red, green, blue, pink you get the idea)  but only choose one fabric.  You might need to buy some fabric because you want white backgrounds with black, black backgrounds with white and a wide variety of texture.  Plan on using anywhere from 18-24 different pieces.

In the afternoon, you can continue with the black and white theme or you can choose your own palette.  Again, that is the part you can control so spend some time picking fabric even though you don’t know what you are making.  You are looking for 18-24 fabrics, one piece should be the accent (punch, poison whatever you want to call it).

On the second day, we will play with design
